3 Ways to Decrease your Grocery Bill

Saturday, May 23, 2020

Don’t you love it when you look over your monthly grocery store bill and it’s unnecessarily expensive? Are you buying what you don’t need? Here’s a triple set of pointers.

1st  way: Plan ahead. Before you plan out your meals for the week, check the store ads to see what's on sale. Base your meals on this. If there's a recipe you've been wanting to try but the ingredients are not on sale, just be patient. Remember that your leftovers can be used for other meals. Throwing away leftovers is like throwing away money. If you go into the store without a shopping list, you're more likely to shop impulsively. Unnecessary items only add to your grocery bill, and usually not your meals. So make sure you have a complete shopping list, including the snacks and drinks you'll be buying.

2nd way: Eat healthier. By simply reducing your portions you can save a lot of money. Start by switching your dinner plate with a salad plate. There's a tendency to serve larger portions on bigger plates because of the empty space. Once you get used to the portion size of the smaller plate, you'll then know how much you need to buy at the grocery store. Don't buy high calorie-packed food that has little nutritional value. Stick to foods that will fill you up but aren't loaded with sugars such as sodas and bakery items.

3rd way: Use apps on your smartphone. When you’re looking for ways to save money on groceries, don’t forget about all the apps out there! PICKL, you can make $5 by taking 5 pictures at different grocery stores. Then there are the rebate apps such as Ibotta, Receipt Hog, Checkout 51, and Fetch Rewards. While rebates don’t give you a discount upfront, you’ll see savings in the long run.

So, what will you do to decrease your grocery bill?
